Creative Thinking

In this class exercise, we explored different ways to creatively think of ways we could improve our FMP ideas, making sure that we are thinking outside the box. In the image above, we went onto focussing on perspective. We split off into pairs and chose the same image to which we were going to place shapes on top of the image to crop it. We then selected a specific bit of the picture, which we individually thought was the most important. For the outcome, we then see that the images and shapes have now changed due to each of our perspectives.

This exercise was meant to allow us to think from a different angle and to ask for other people's opinion as this would be helpful to link our ideas to fit our target audience.

FMP Ideas

Film:

I have started to develop ideas for my film, the main topic I will be projecting is bullying. I will present this from someone seeing someone else being bullied. The setting will be at school and at home. 

At the beginning of the film, I will have a video survey on whether people have been bullied before and how they felt during that process, I will then ask them how they spot bullying. The film will be about a girl/boy is consistently being teased and bullied at school and home. The audience will see the character's thoughts and dreams. 

One of the advantages of this film will be that if I were to put it on social media, it will reach more people and will make victims aware of the kind of help they can receive, and those witnessing the bullying made aware of how they can help the victim. Another advantage of this project is that it will allow me to improve and use inventive shots to make the story more exciting. 

A disadvantage of this is that when collecting information through survey and vox pop, this can cause some sensitivity as bullying is a subject which everyone can relate to this subject, this is because the majority of people would of either been the victim or have witnessed bullying in their lifetime. Bullying is such a broad subject as it happens almost everywhere and some times we don't even know we are doing it as there are so many ways for us to discreetly do it, whether it's through a joke or behind a computer screen.

Identifying my Recce’s and Test Shoots

Lab 

This is one of my locations for my short film. In my first scene it stars off in a lab, this is where we first get introduced to the character Elijah and her contraption. this scene will last around a minute long, giving a brief introduction to the character, on what kind of person she is seen to be, this allows the audience to create a picture in their mind of who they think the main character is. I chose this location as it is an actual lab and has basic equipment, foreshadowing how other characters in this scene, sees Elijah, as an underdeveloped scientist.

In the lab, I don't believe that there will be much sound restriction as it is its own classroom, the only bit of restriction would be the noise outside the classroom from passing students. As the lab is on college grounds, it means that when moving equipment to that location, due to the distance, there won't be a problem. To access the lab, we have to book the room out to ensure that we definitely have that room at that specific time. Lighting is also good in here as the room is quite open and is also filled with windows to allow in as much light into the room as possible.

Running Through Time (Combe Down Tunnel)

The location of the tunnels are quite far from the college, but that doesn't restrict us as we are able to walk there, which will take under an hour, the only thing we must be wary of is the equipment, as weather conditions are unpredictable, we must ensure the equipment is safe regardless, and we must also make sure that we have everything for the shoot before we leave. The tunnel is a part of a cycling and running route, and so it would probably be best to make sure that we make people aware of us shooting, to do this, I will have either myself or a team member to advise people they enter the tunnel. Daylight or darkness does not affect my location as the tunnel is dark anyway and has its own lighting inside the tunnel.

Alternatively, I could use this tunnel, which is on Old Orchard Street, right next to Marks & Spencers, this is roughly 5 minutes away, making it easier to get to from college, due to the distance, it also means that when transferring equipment from college to this location would be much easier compared to Combe Down Tunnels. As the location is in the middle of Bath, it means that there will be quite a bit of surrounding sounds from the general public. As this is a tunnel, the natural light, whether it's in daylight or in the evening, it does not affect my shots, the tunnel, like Combe Down Tunnel, has lighting within it anyway.

Interrogation Room (Studio)

In the third scene, we see our main character trapped in a dark room, showing no sign of where she is. I chose this location as it does exactly that, it is dark and small and it can easily be accessed. Daylight and darkness does not affect my location as it is indoors and all natural lighting will be blocked out anyway, and we will only be using artificial spotlights around the room. The location is very accessible as it is on college grounds, also making transferring equipment easy too. In the room, there will be little sound restrictions, possibly the only would be from passing students outside the studio.

The Sun and The Forest (Short Film) Review

The Sun:

I thought that the animation, 'The Sun', was quite clever as it showed us that by having too much of something is bad. They showed this by having the sun shine brightly, killing life forms as it goes, although when there is the right amount of sunlight, life forms are able to grow and flourish. When the sun found the human, it almost seemed as if it wanted him/her to die, when the human ran and hid behind the tree from the sun, the sun tried to find ways to draw that person back out into the light. But in the end, as the day came to an end the moon immersed and the human was safe...

The Forest:

This animation, I found, was quite visual. It was this way too project many messages such as being different is okay and to also enjoy the simple natural things we have, such as nature. I liked how the narrator used short and simple language, I feel as though it made the animation more dramatic as we many focused on the complicity of the dark animation.
